Meet Bo Bowden
As President of Virginia United Methodist Foundation and Virginia United Methodist Development Company, I am excited to apply my past experience in finance, teaching, and real estate to help our affiliates and my teammates achieve their missions.
As a commercial banker, I was with BB&T for 22 years in several capacities in Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina, where I provided sales leadership in newly-entered markets, most recently as Southside (VA) Area Executive. For three years I worked in capital markets, during which time I held a Series 7 securities license. I have held a real estate broker’s license since 1989.
I’ve always been passionate about helping people discover their missions in life. As a teacher, I served on the adjunct faculty of Guilford College and as a guest lecturer at the University of Richmond. I also worked in career services at Wake Forest University.
One of the hallmarks of the United Methodist Church is putting our faith into action. I’m a longtime member of Reveille United Methodist Church, where I served as Finance Chair and Lay Leader. I’ve been on several mission trips and plan to continue!
I’m a North Carolina native, and have a BSBA from the University of North Carolina and an MBA from Wake Forest University. I completed the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Georgetown University in 2005. An aspiring writer, I’m a member of James River Writers and the North Carolina Writers’ Network. Currently I’m completing a first novel about the intersection of business, politics and religion in a small southern town in the 1980s.
My interests include hiking, tennis, golf and playing guitar. I love being outside!
